The work proceeds in long series: the same motif taken up season after season, at the same hour, until the light — not the subject — becomes the content of the painting.
A series makes it possible to look at several works together without reducing each one to a simple variation. The paintings gathered here share a title, period or painterly question; their differences matter as much as their similarities.
Working through return
Some enquiries continue from one canvas to another. A motif, an organisation of space or a quality of light returns, then shifts with formats and years. The series offers a way of reading, not a formula to repeat.
