Aigue-marine #1
Indian ink and black sand on hardboard · 80 × 60 cm · 2024
In 2024, The State of Sand develops a more concentrated visual language based on India ink and black sand. Most of the works are made on wood panel; La lutte brings the same materials to canvas. The contrast between ink, sand and pale reserves gives the compositions graphic energy, while the grain holds the gesture and makes the surface unstable. The titles open directions without closing them down. The Time and Transitions, both 70 × 50 cm, place duration in dialogue with passage. La voix, Relâche and Le blanc est audacieux (80 × 60 cm) foreground tensions between pause, release and brightness. Les guerriers returns to a figure of confrontation, while La poésie balkanique and Composition déchirée, at 120 × 80 cm, broaden the series’ field. The two Aigue-marine works show how repetition in a title can become a method of variation. From one work to another, an accent colour and white ground gain or yield territory to black. The state of sand is therefore not a fixed motif, but a material condition that turns every trace into a threshold, fracture or movement.
