The Sleepers is the longest-running series in the catalogue, active from 2007 to 2024. It returns to a single visual question: how can figures be held together in sleep, waiting or stillness? From The Sleepers #13 (2007), oil on sand gives the forms a material presence. The 2008 exhibition The Sleepers, documented through four sculptures, already shows that the investigation extends beyond the plane of the canvas.
Over the years, supports and formats broaden this vocabulary. The Sleepers “Blue Eyes” and The Sleepers #17 (2013), each 262 cm wide, unfold groups across a horizontal field; Draw Sleepers (2013), a 420 × 95 cm drawing, translates this procession into line. In 2019, The Sleepers #36 and #37 use enamel on canvas in elongated 160 × 40 cm formats. The Sleepers #68 (2020) combines charcoal and sand, while From My Sketchbook (2024), made with Posca on black paper, and Untitled (2024), enamel on canvas, continue the series through other means. Despite these transformations, silhouettes, repetition and dark ground maintain a continuity: that of a fragile collective seen between presence and retreat.
